Mark of the Beast
The Mark of the Beast Versus the Seal of God
Topical Bible Study
And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six (Revelation 13:17-18).
Two Completely Different Marks
The Bible describes two marks or
People choose either the
mark of the beast or the
seal of God.
The number 666, also called
the mark of the beast, represents
world power to control financial resources. The Seal of God represents
the Lord's acceptance and peace in our lives.
During the tribulation, government will
pressure the population to receive the mark of the beast.
We can choose the Seal of God at any time, even now.
Mark of the Beast
In Matthew 24:21 Jesus explains, the entire earth will experience a time of tribulation before the end of the world. No other time in history will compare. In other words, those living here will have difficulties beyond any ever recorded.
for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be (Matthew 24:21 KJV).
During the tribulation a beast rises to power. The beast has seven heads, ten horns, and ten crowns. Horns and crowns symbolize political power. The beast makes war with the saints. In other words the beast opposes Christians. The beast coerces people into receiving a mark in order to buy or sell (Rev 13:17). That mark is referred to as the mark of the beast or the number 666 (Rev 13:18). The mark will be placed on the right hand or forehead (Rev 13:16).
In modern terms, those who don't receive the mark of the beast (Rev 13:17) will not be able to shop or do business. It seems logical to conclude, those without the mark will have difficulty obtaining food, water, shelter, or clothes. For a time, the beast receives power to overcome the saints (Rev 13:7). Some Christians will be taken captive and others killed. During the tribulation, the world's population must choose between physical survival and faith in Christ.
However in the end, the beast is cast into the lake of fire (Rev 19:20). All those who wage war against Christ (Rev 19:21) are slain. Those who don't receive the mark of the beast (Rev 20:4) during the tribulation, reign with Christ one thousand years.
Even now, God provides a better mark which seals His followers forever. Many believe those who receive Christ now, avoid the world wide tribulation. That doesn't mean we won't experience trouble at times, however Jesus takes Christians from the earth before the global end time difficulties.
The Better Mark
The Bible includes a better mark called the Seal of God (Rev 7:3). Scripture also places the Seal of God on the forehead and hand.
In the book of Exodus chapter thirteen, Moses tells the Israelites to remember God's deliverance from Egypt. Every year the Jewish people celebrate Passover, recounting how the Lord brought them out of slavery. Discussing God's great work helps maintain His law in our hearts. In Exodus 13:8, a sign on the hand and forehead represents remembering and speaking God's law. In context the sign represents an attitude focused on God's Word, rather than a visible mark.
And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes,
that the LORD'S law may be in thy mouth: for with
a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt (Exodus 13:8 KJV).
The book of Revelation mentions the Seal of God. During the tribulation, nothing is harmed until those who belong to God receive His seal. In Revelation Chapter 9, locusts with the power of scorpions are told to harm only those people who don't have the the Seal of God (Rev 9:4). The last chapter of the Bible Revelation Chapter 22, describes the new heaven and earth with the new Jerusalem. Those living in the new Jerusalem will see God's face and his name shall be in their foreheads (Rev 22:4).
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life,
which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed
Those who have given their lives to Christ now, receive the Seal of God.

This section does not reference Scripture and is only conjecture. It simply includes a few thoughts to ponder.
Governments tend to join together for legal, financial, or military purposes. Additionally, online monitoring easily crosses bounds of personal privacy. The combination of large government with access to individual personal data could cause problems. For example global government could enforce financial controls based on our faith.
Online databases store personal information. With a quick Web search we can determine a person's full name, aliases, previous marriages, family members, previous addresses, current address, and phone number. We can find a photograph of where they live. We can obtain the value of their house and the names of other people who live with them. All of that information is available with no special access fees or privileges.
Online search engines, such as Google and Bing, gather information
about the search queries we make on our computers and mobile phones.
Shopping networks, such as Amazon and Ebay,
store information about our shopping preferences.
Brick and Mortar stores keep record of our purchases in their databases.
Social networks, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, provide access to photographs, our interests, and attitudes. Sometimes that information includes personal preference regarding faith and politics. Other times that information includes what we do for a living, for fun, and our friends.
People with legal permissions have access to credit scores, social security numbers, arrest records, and other sensitive information. Much of our health status resides in online databases. People with authorization easily gather a wide range of data about individuals.
The European Union (EU), United Nations (UN), Arab League, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), represent combined government. Those organizations govern groups of nations. Perhaps someday the governments of all countries will combine.
The governments of communist countries, monitor and control freedoms, which people in Western countries currently take for granted. For example in February 2014, Reuters reported evidence North Korea recently imprisoned, tortured, and killed Christians. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/18/us-korea-north-un-idUSBREA1H1FG20140218. That's perhaps the tip of the iceberg concerning communist and Sharia governed nations.
Can we trust large governing bodies with our freedom?
Cell phones contain GPS information which provides our location. Phone settings don't disable cell phone GPS data. Settings only disable app access to GPS data. In other words cell phones continue to provide GPS data regardless. However it's easy enough to leave a phone behind.
GPS microchips inserted under the skin of pets and livestock includes the animal's location among other things. Preventing conterfeit paper money has become more difficult as technology advances. Could government require individuals to receive microchip identification for financial transactions? Perhaps the microchip would provide privileges to buy and sell, based on politically acceptable behaviors.
DNA testing for heritage and health conditions have become popular. Every human has unique DNA except perhaps identical twins. However, even with identical twins, DNA often changes in response to diet, exercise, alcohol, tobacco, and other environmental factors. Could government require citizens to register with DNA? If so all registered citizens, would have a natural mechanism for tracking and identification.
Receive the Better Mark
During the tribulation people choose either the Mark of the Beast or the Seal of God. God will rule the world in His time and only He is Good. Therefore His Seal excels above all else. Anyone can accept the Seal of God at any time. If you would like to live a life of Peace with Christ, please accept an invitation to live for Christ.
